Why Choose the Fair Trade Purse Option?
Dia is from the Karen hill tribe in Thailand and grew up on Doi Intanon the highest mountain in Thailand. She is the team leader for two village artisan co-ops and manages her own co-op near Chom Thong. These co-ops provide village artisans with fair, supportive, and empowering careers while bringing their culture and craftsmanship to you.
Fair Trade respects the cultural, racial, and ethnic identities of the talented artisan groups with which we collaborate. We celebrate the cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity of communities, working collaboratively with Hmong Hill Tribes to integrate traditional techniques and elements to support community-led cultural preservation.
The artisans are proud of their traditional batik fabric, patterns, and sewing skills and want to share them with the world. Fair Trade provides these talented artists with ethical, fair, and just treatment, pay, working conditions, and the means to reach a global market. Preserving and respecting individuals and increasing opportunity and equality one purse at a time.
Each purse uplifts the life of each artisan, their family, and the community who crafted them!
What is Batik Fabric?
Batik fabric is a handmade process that takes considerable work and time. The unique design is laid on fabric using wax for the pattern. The fabric is then dyed, and the areas where the wax is on the fabric will be left undyed, leaving a beautifully unique pattern on the fabric.
In Thailand, batik fabric was originally made in the south, where people adopted the techniques, colors, and patterns developed initially in Malaysia and Indonesia. It is a deep part of the Hmong culture as the batik technique is often used for their traditional and ceremonial clothing design.
Each Fair Trade clutch brings tradition to you, allowing you to show your global conscious style while facilitating the continuation of Hmong culture and livelihoods.
