Why Fair Trade Necklaces?
Darin, a talented Thai jewelry designer has organized a jewelry co-op in Fang, Thailand. Also, known as Wiang Fang, it is in the northern Chiang Mai Province where job options are limited. Each necklace purchase provides Darin, her mother, and other women in the village with equitable work while allowing them to remain local. This ethical employment allows them to use their traditional jewelry crafting talents, while allowing them to stay local and assist in caring for their families.
Fair Trade provides an uplifting, nurturing, empowering artisan crafter and retail relationship, giving a new avenue to sell their tassel jewelry and providing fair, timely, and reliable pay. Each necklace/bracelet purchase makes a difference for the bead jewelry artisan and their family!
Meanings of the Tassel
Tassels, loosely hanging threads knotted as an embellishment, are a universal ornament seen in varying versions in many cultures around the globe. A sign of luxury and prestige since ancient times, they are handcrafted and labor-intensive, so they became associated with prestige and honor. In Egypt and Mesopotamia, tassels were worn as amulets on headdresses to protect the wearer from evil spirits. Wear yours with pride, knowing each artisan who made them has a beautiful, profitable career while providing you international style!
